Apple Music UX annoyance of the day: You can’t click on an album title to go to the album details view, only on the image of the album cover (but not the corners that turn into play and menu buttons). It feels like something is not working when clicking on the text does nothing. t.co/nJoqQNoNx…

To whatever extent CNN’s new ownership is cancelling Reliable Sources and parting ways with @brianstelter because they see Sources as being “too political” is disheartening, because conservatives see Stelter’s non-partisan media criticism as political.

I absolutely adore my Tidbyt, but agree with @pierce that it falls into a weird space of not always showing the right info at the right time, but also not wanting to have to interact with it more. theverge.com/23303371/tidby…

The FTC taking up rule making on consumer privacy could be excellent for protecting consumers against unfair and deceptive privacy practices. It’s not a substitute for a comprehensive federal privacy law, but fills the most pressing need for regulators to be flexible for new tech twitter.com/linakhanFTC/st…

@bostonCAwill Which middle class livelihoods does the climate bill negatively impact?

There’s something particularly nihilistic getting served an ad for NetJets private jet rentals on a NYT article about the climate bill. nytimes.com/2022/08/07/cli… t.co/Chv3N410j…

After listening to @gruber and @MichaelSteeber talk Apple Stores and feel nostalgic for the SoHo store opening 20 years ago, I read Tamara Shopsin’s LaserWriter II, and feel even more nostalgic for TekServe and when Apple represented an underdog valuing humanity in computing.

@CathyGellis This is why most purchasers of complex companies for billions of dollars undertake some kind of diligent review of the corporate records BEFORE signing a complex and heavily negotiated purchase agreement?

Obviously the combined service will be called Max Plus twitter.com/KateAurthur/st…

Every word you learned from a peer in middle school? It’s probably highly offensive.

@B_Palfreyman Which is, of course, the irony of this whole situation. The problems with the service are the garbage app and making the distinction between linear HBO and MAX audience-facing. The programming itself is best-in-class

@B_Palfreyman IIRC, Barry and We Own This City (along with Success and House of the Dragon) belong to HBO (the linear cable channel) and stream on HBO Max, but aren’t original to HBO Max. (And of course, there are different development groups within WB for each)

The HBO Max Apple TV app is absolute garbage. But for programming, it probably has the largest amount of high-quality content of any streamer (The Other Two, Hacks, Flight Attendant, Peacemaker’s opening credits). Keep the programming, burn the software.

This is a great thread. Also: Compliance is a journey. There’s no date at which a privacy program is complete.

Often, privacy features are customer service and serve the interests of users. twitter.com/wbm312/status/…

The Tour de Frances Femmes #TDFF was a great step forward. I hope that the organizers can do it again and with more parity. (@bikesnobnyc’s suggestion of two different grand tours ending in Paris on the same day would be amazing, but challenging outsideonline.com/culture/opinio…)

It’s fun to randomly rediscover a random album in your library that you’ve almost totally forgotten. This 2006 compilation of Radiohead covers is very nice, with Mark Ronson’s funky version of “Just” being a highlight. music.apple.com/us/album/exit-…
